Hatton Garden Diamond, a family-run Hatton Garden jeweller can help craft your ideas into reality. Their founder, Stephen Perry has been creating bespoke diamond jewellery in the world’s most famous diamond quarter for over 45 years. Here they explain how to create a bespoke engagement ring to pop the question with.

Have you been looking for the perfect engagement ring for that special someone but just can’t seem to find exactly what you want? Well, you may want to consider creating a bespoke ring with a master jeweller.

The key to a fantastic engagement ring is that it is unique. You want this to be a special ring that nobody else has, so your fiancé can flaunt it to the world. Thankfully, you can craft fully bespoke engagement rings that are made to your exact specifications.

Design ideas

The first step is to have an idea in your head for the perfect engagement ring. Perhaps your partner has been pointing out ideas or has hinted at certain things they love most of all. Collect all of this information and conjure up some designs – either in your head or on paper – that you can then show jewellers. They’ll let you know if this is doable or not, in which case you will either review your idea slightly or proceed to create the bespoke engagement ring.

Create your dream ring

Now, you can start picking all the individual elements of your engagement ring to make it your own. Here’s what you will have control over:

  • Ring style – This refers to the general look of your ring; what will the band and diamond look like? Will it be a classic solitaire look or something more out there like a trilogy?
  • Diamond cut – There are plenty of different diamond cuts to choose from, including round, princess, oval, pear, cushion, emerald, heart, and so on. This is the main part of your engagement ring, so a lot of thought should go into how the diamond looks.

  • Band – Here, it’s a case of choosing the metal style of your band, as well as selecting the right ring size. There are many types of metal you can opt for, with the most common being white gold, yellow gold, platinum and rose gold.

At this stage, you will be presented with a series of ring options that suit your current demands. Now, you can select whichever one is closest to your initial idea and proceed to filter your diamond.

Diamond filtering is simply the process of making your diamond look however you wish. You can increase the carats, change the colour, select the clarity, choose the cut, pick the polish and select the symmetry.

Wait for your engagement ring to be crafted

After going through all of the previous stages, you’ll have a bespoke engagement ring that’s almost ready for use. All you have to do is wait for it to be crafted and delivered. The crafting time depends on how complex the ring is, as well as what metals you chose. In most cases, you should have your bespoke engagement ring within five weeks.
